Install WellTrack

Install on iPhone or iPad

Install WellTrack before you set up your plan. On iPhone and iPad the Home Screen app keeps its own storage, separate from Safari, and Safari can clear data for websites you haven't used for 7 days.

  1. Open your private link from START HERE in Safari (not a private tab).
  2. Tap Share. If it isn't in the toolbar, tap ⋯ first.
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen (under View More if you don't see it), then Add.
  4. Open WellTrack from your Home Screen and set up your plan there.

Chrome on iPhone works the same way: tap Share in the address bar, then Add to Home Screen.

If the Home Screen app shows the WellTrack product page, paste your private link into the box at the bottom of that page and tap Open WellTrack.

Install on Android

  1. Open your private link from START HERE in Chrome.
  2. Tap Chrome's menu ⋮, then Install (it may say Add to Home screen or Install app), then Install again.
  3. Open WellTrack from its icon on your Home screen.

Install on a Windows, Mac or ChromeOS computer

  • Chrome or Edge: open your private link, then choose Install in the address bar. WellTrack opens in its own window and can be pinned to the taskbar or Dock.
  • Safari on a Mac: open your private link, then choose File › Add to Dock.
  • Firefox: can't install apps. WellTrack works fully in a normal tab; bookmark it.

Get started

Set up your plan

  1. Choose Set up.
  2. Tick the areas you want to use, or pick a preset: Lose weight, Count calories or Plan my training. A preset only ticks areas for you; nothing is compulsory.
  3. Choose your units and how dates are written. They are filled in from your browser's language.
  4. Add starting points if you like: your current weight and goal weight, a calorie target, a starting photo. Each is optional, and Skip all leaves them out.
  5. Choose Finish. WellTrack opens on Today.

You can change every answer later in Settings.

See the example

Choose See the example on the first screen, or later in Settings. It opens the records of an example person, so you can see every screen filled in. The example is illustrative; it is nobody's target.

  • Nothing you do in the example changes your own records. A band at the top says Example data while it is open.
  • Reset example makes the example new again. Start my own goes to your own records, or to setup if you have none yet.
  • The example can't be exported, and it is never in a backup file.

The free demo on the WellTrack home page is the same example in your browser. It keeps nothing you enter.

Choose your areas

WellTrack has ten areas: Weight, Measurements, Photos, Food, Meal plan, Training, Water, Habits, Medication and Challenge. Use only the ones you want.

  1. Open the menu and choose Areas.
  2. Switch an area on or off. The change is saved at once.

An area that is off is hidden everywhere, and its records are kept: switch it on again and they are back. Meal plan needs Food.

Units and dates

Open Settings, then Units and dates. Eight settings are independent of each other:

  • Body weight: lb, kg, or st and lb.
  • Height: ft and in, or cm.
  • Measurements: in or cm.
  • Lifting load: lb or kg.
  • Distance: miles or km.
  • Water: fl oz or ml.
  • Date order: month/day or day/month.
  • Week starts: Sunday or Monday.

Changing a unit changes what you see, never what is stored.

Food

Record what you eat

  1. Open Food. The diary has four sections: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks. Choose Add under a section, or Search at the top.
  2. Search Your foods and the Built-in foods, or pick a saved meal or a recipe.
  3. Set the amount, then choose Log to Breakfast (or the section you picked).
  • Quick calories records a number without a food.
  • Create food adds a food of your own, from its label. A blank nutrient means not recorded.
  • Same as yesterday, and Copy from… in a section's menu, bring in what you logged on another day.
  • Save as meal keeps a section as a meal you can log again in one step.

The built-in foods are generic reference values: a particular product or preparation can differ. Your own foods, meals and recipes, and the built-in foods, work without internet.

Scan a barcode or search online

  1. Open Food, choose Scan and point the camera at the barcode, or type its digits.
  2. Or type what you are looking for and choose Search online.
  3. Check the product against its label, then save it. A saved product is one of your foods from then on.
  • Online results come from Open Food Facts, a database that volunteers fill in. Coverage and values vary, so check them against the label. Not every barcode is there.
  • Looking up a new product needs internet. Without it, a scan still finds a product you have already saved, and you can always use your own foods, the built-in foods or Quick calories.
  • To switch online lookup off, open Settings, then Food, and turn off Online food search.

What a lookup sends is in Privacy.

Set a calorie target, or none

  1. Open Settings, then Food.
  2. Choose Set a calorie target. Type your own number, or work one out from your height, weight and activity, at the pace you choose.
  3. For protein, carbohydrate and fat, choose Set macro targets. Show macros shows or hides them everywhere, the week in review and the printed weekly summary included.

A target is optional: without one, the diary shows your totals. A target has a start date, and earlier days keep the target they had.

A worked-out target is an estimate from what you enter. It is not medical or nutrition advice. Ask your doctor or dietitian about targets appropriate for you.

Plan meals and build a grocery list

  1. Open Plan and choose Add to plan: a food, a meal or a recipe, or just a note, for a day and a section.
  2. On the day, choose Log beside a planned meal to put it in your diary. You can change the amounts first.
  3. Choose Grocery list, then Build, to add up the ingredients of the meals you planned. Tick what you have bought, and add items of your own.

A copy of a meal or a week adds to the plan and replaces nothing.

Training

Plan and record workouts

  1. Open Train and choose Set repeating week. Give each day a routine or leave it as rest. There are ready-made routines and weeks, and you can make your own.
  2. On a training day, choose Start. Fill in each set and tick it when it is done. Your last results and your bests are shown beside the sets.
  3. Choose Finish, check the summary and save.
  • A workout in progress is kept if you close WellTrack: choose Continue.
  • Enter an earlier workout records one you did on another day.
  • A planned session can be moved to another day or skipped, from its menu.

Weight and progress

Weigh in and set a goal

  1. On Today, type your weight in the Weight card, or choose Weigh in. There is one weigh-in a day.
  2. Open Progress, then Weight, for the chart, your weigh-ins and your trend.
  3. Choose Set a goal for a goal weight, and Set a target date if you have one.

A projection, when there is one, is an estimate from your recent weigh-ins. It is not a promise.

How the weight trend is worked out

Weight goes up and down from day to day. The trend smooths that out, so you can see the direction.

The trend starts at your first weigh-in. Each later weigh-in moves it part of the way towards the new weight: a tenth of the way after one day, and more after a longer gap.

An example, in kg (the same holds in lb):

  • March 1: you weigh 80.0. The trend is 80.0.
  • March 2: you weigh 79.4, which is 0.6 under the trend. One day has passed, so the trend moves a tenth of that: 79.9.
  • March 7: you weigh 78.2. Five days have passed, so the trend moves about 41% of the way from where it was to 78.2: 79.2.

One low weigh-in doesn't move the trend much, and neither does one high one. This week on the Weight card compares the trend at this week's latest weigh-in with the trend at last week's latest.

Measurements and progress photos

  • Measurements: open Progress, then Measurements, and choose Add measurements. Choose which sites to show, and add your own.
  • Photos: open Progress, then Photos, and choose Add a photo. Take one or choose one from your library, and give it a date and a view.
  • Before/after: pick two photos, frame them with Zoom and move, and choose Save image. Show weights adds the weights recorded on those days.

Photos stay on this device. They are in your backup file, and they reach your linked devices as encrypted copies.

Check in and review your week

  • Check in: choose Check in on Today or in Progress. One page takes your weight, measurements, a photo and a note. Skip any.
  • Week in review: open Progress, then Week in review, for what you recorded in a week, area by area.
  • Weekly summary: a one-page summary you can print. Choose the paper size, then Print. Medication is left out unless you switch on Include medication.

Water, habits, medication and challenges

Water and habits

  • Water: on Today, tap Glass or Bottle, or Other amount. Undo last takes the last one back. The sizes and an optional daily target are in Settings, then Water.
  • Habits: choose Add a habit, name it and pick its weekdays. Mark it on Today. A habit can be paused or archived. There are eight active habits at most.

Medication records

  1. Open Progress, then Medication, and choose Add your medication: its name, how often you take it and the first day.
  2. Choose Record a dose when you take it: the date, the amount and, if you like, the site.
  3. Choose Add a side effect to note how you felt.

This area keeps a record of the medication you already take, as your prescriber set it. WellTrack gives no medical or dosing advice.

Run a challenge

  1. On Today, choose Start a challenge.
  2. Pick a template or Custom, then its length, its start date and its rules. The rules read what you already record, such as a logged food day, a workout or your water target.
  3. Each day shows how many of the rules are met. End challenge stops it early.

A challenge counts what you recorded. WellTrack doesn't judge a day and promises no result.

Keep your plan safe

Back up your plan

Your records live in this browser's storage. If that storage is cleared, they are gone unless you have a backup file. Export one now and then.

  1. Open Backup and choose Export a backup file.
  2. Read This file is not encrypted, then choose Export. The file holds all your records, photos included.
  3. Keep the .fitnessbackup file with your private files, for example in your own cloud drive.

Anyone who has the file can read it, medication records and photos included. Last backup exported shows when you last made one, and Today reminds you when there are changes that are in no backup file.

This browser keeps your records says whether the browser has promised not to clear them. If it says Not guaranteed, choose Ask the browser to keep them, and install WellTrack.

Move to a new device or to the installed app

  1. On the old device (or in Safari), export a backup file.
  2. On the new device (or in the installed app), open WellTrack with your private link.
  3. Choose Restore a backup and pick the file. WellTrack checks it and shows what's inside before anything changes.

A restore replaces the records on that device. If the device was linked to others, it stops syncing.

Want to keep using both devices? Link them instead, and they stay up to date.

Privacy and food data

Privacy

  • Your records stay with you. Your records and photos are kept in your browser, on your device. There is no account. JYKDigital cannot read them and receives none of them.
  • Online food lookup. When you search online, the words you typed are sent to Open Food Facts. When you look up a barcode, the barcode is sent. Open Food Facts also sees your connection's network address, as any website does. Nothing else about you or your records is sent, and you can switch online lookup off.
  • The camera. A barcode is read on your device. Camera frames are not uploaded.
  • Linked devices. If you link devices, your records and photos pass through a relay as encrypted copies. Only your linked devices hold the key, so the relay and JYKDigital cannot read them.
  • Backup files. A backup file is not encrypted. Anyone who has it can read it, so keep it with your private files.
  • Your private link. It saves one cookie, so the browser stays unlocked. The cookie says nothing about you.

The same statement is in WellTrack under Settings, then About and privacy.

Food data and what WellTrack is not

  • Online food data comes from Open Food Facts, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
  • The 400 built-in foods come from USDA FoodData Central, which is in the public domain (CC0 1.0). The dataset release is shown in WellTrack under Settings, then About and privacy.

WellTrack keeps records. Its calorie targets, trends and projections are estimates worked out from what you enter. It promises no weight-loss result, is not medical advice and does not replace your doctor or dietitian.
